Tennis elbow

What is Tennis elbow?

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is pain or inflammation on the outer elbow, caused by overuse of the forearm muscles and tendons. It leads to tenderness, stiffness, and pain during gripping or lifting.

Causes

Repetitive wrist extension or gripping (e.g., tennis, typing, or manual labor) strains the extensor tendons. Poor technique, inadequate rest, or weak forearm muscles increase risk.

Massage Therapy Solutions

Massage reduces tension in the forearm extensors and improves blood flow to the tendons. Cross-fiber friction breaks down scar tissue and promotes healing, while deep tissue work targets the extensor carpi radialis brevis. Swedish massage relaxes the arm and reduces compensatory shoulder tension. Stretching the wrist extensors during sessions enhances flexibility. Regular massage, paired with rest and strengthening exercises, accelerates recovery and prevents chronicity.
